Sarah reflects

Sarah, an adult survivor of child sex abuse, reflects on changing her thinking about herself as a result of being in the art group. The art group made Sarah realise that it is problematic to define self worth in accordance with his/her experiences' of trauma because it was simply one part of what makes up the person; but it's not all of who the person is.

"I love taking photos because it feels as though I am reflecting true beauty. I feel extremely fortunate to be able to capture some inspiring images that signify that the world is not pure evil- it is uniquely tranquil. Taking pictures helps me to feel safe behind the lens and opens up opportunities to take notice of things which others may take for granted. The photo of the bird was captured at the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park in Malaysia. Its my favourite photo of all time because it demonstrates that beauty is often the most simple of things, but to notice them we must open our eyes fully and look beyond societal stereotypes."
